Shaun Northedge
Operations Manager
For 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of delivering IT Solutions and Services across Not-for-Profit Financial Institutions, Industry, and the Biomedical sector. My core motivation isn’t just about delivering software; it’s about fostering an environment where people feel empowered and where our work makes a genuine, positive impact. This feeling is grounded in three key principles:
Transparency – Building trust for true partnership
When communication is open, transparent, and direct, it cultivates a feeling of mutual trust that accelerates decision-making and ensures every stakeholder feels fully respected and aligned with our shared vision.
Cooperation – Driving innovation and accountability
I feel energised by environments that promote cross-functional collaboration. Watching software engineers, biomedical scientists, and QA experts combine their insights to solve complex problems is incredibly rewarding. It fosters a powerful sense of collective accountability and shared excitement over innovative solutions.
Expertise – Knowledge reduces risk
Our teams have deep experience in Biomedical Software. At BDS, we understand the nuances of standards like IEC 62304, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and ISO 13485, streamlining documentation and validation from the start. Teams of seasoned professionals help anticipate common pitfalls, improve estimation accuracy, and enforce proven engineering practices, ensuring projects stay on track.
Together, these principles ensure we don’t just deliver compliant software—we deliver solutions that are safe, impactful, and built with integrity, giving our clients and users peace of mind.
Ian Williams
Head of Product Management and Support
Hi, I’m Ian – Head of Product at Biomedical Data Solutions.
I’ve been with BDS for almost nine years, and people often ask me why I’ve chosen to invest so much of my career here. For me, the answer is simple: I believe technology has the power to transform healthcare… not by replacing people, but by supporting them in the vital work they do for patients. Its the same belief that drew me into biomedical science in the first place, and it continues to be the “why” behind everything I do at BDS.
I graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science and spent over 20 years working in the NHS as a Biomedical Scientist, specialising in Haematology and Blood Transfusion. During that time, I experienced first-hand the challenges of delivering safe, efficient, and patient-focused care in busy laboratory environments. What inspired me most was how the right IT solutions could ease pressure on laboratory staff, improve workflows, and ultimately enhance patient outcomes. That’s when I discovered my passion for combining science and technology.
At BDS, I’ve been able to turn that passion into action. I started as a Product Manager and have since grown a team of product managers, all from laboratory backgrounds, who share that same vision. Together, we focus not just on what we build, but on why we build it: to create software that truly works for the people using it and to support the delivery of safety-critical solutions for patients.
My years in the NHS gave me a detailed understanding of hospital environments and clinical workflows, and at BDS I put that insight to work every day. I want healthcare professionals to feel supported, to know their needs are understood, and to have confidence that the tools they use are designed around them, because when they thrive, patients benefit.
This is why I’ve invested nearly a decade at BDS: because it brings together my laboratory background and my love of technology to make a real difference. It’s not just about writing software, it’s about improving experiences for staff, delivering safer care for patients, and living up to the “why” that has driven me since the very start of my career.
